The first cord blood transplant was performed in 1988. Since then, more than 8,000 transplants have occurred.Families know that there is only one opportunity – at birth – to collect these genetically unique stem cells and if not taken, the cord blood is simply discarded. The opportunity for expectant families to collect and store their newborn’s umbilical cord blood stem cells has only been widely available since late 1995.Currently, thousands of parents are taking advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Cord blood stem cells are showing significant potential to treat conditions that have no cure today – like juvenile diabetes and brain injury.

Cord Blood preservation is viewed it as a type of “biological insurance” – because these stem cells may be lifesaving to their family, as there are many dieseases cured by cord blood.Families recognize that their baby’s cord blood may offer a lifetime of protection:

The baby’s cord blood may be used to treat nearly 80 diseases. Stem cells have been used for decades in lifesaving treatments for diseases including leukemia, other cancers, and blood disorders.

Cord blood stem cells are showing significant potential to treat conditions that have no cure today – like juvenile diabetes and brain injury.

The baby’s cord blood is immediately available for the family if needed, and faster treatment is always better.

For use in regenerative medicine therapies using cord blood, the child’s own stem cells are required.

For treating cancers and blood disorders in transplant medicine, having the family’s own cord blood available may offer significant advantages if ever needed, including fewer complications, improved survival, and a better quality of life without the need for continual anti-rejection medications.

Some families have more defined risk factors, but most families bank for the security of knowing the health benefits that stem cells may someday offer their children, themselves, or other family members.

Is Cord blood America going to be one of the hot stocks of tomorrow?

As it turns out, the Cord Blood of America been in business (Publicly traded) since 2003 and featured in countless news and media overages, including Fox news.

CBAI, moving toward achieving its goal of becoming a globally dominant stem cell storage company, recently signed a deal licensing its umbilical cord blood technology to AXM Pharma Inc., a China pharmaceutical and nutraceutical company.

Cord Blood America is located at Las Vegas and currently is the largest cryogenic storage in the world. Currently US, Russia, China, Japan, and Europe are the leaders in Cryogenic technology.

The principle of cryogenic plants operation is based on the air liquefaction and its subsequent separation with the recovery of nitrogen, oxygen, and argon.

Another recall from Toyota, who became world’s top autoseller in 2008. Japanese automaker Toyota said on Friday, 16th April 2010 it will recall 870,000 Sienna minivans in the United States and Canada because of corrosion problems.

The recall affects 1998 through 2010 Sienna minivans which Toyota said could experience corrosion in the spare tire carrier cable if they have been operated in cold climates with high road salt use.

The announcement came a day after the world’s biggest automaker said it would suspend production and worldwide sales of its Lexus GX 460 and would conduct safety tests on all its SUVs due to reports of rollover risk.

“In the worst case, the carrier cable may fail and the spare tire could become separated from the vehicle, a road hazard for following vehicles that increases the likelihood of a crash,” Toyota said in a statement that did not indicate whether any accidents or injuries had been reported as a result of the defect.

Toyota said it is currently working to develop a remedy for the problem. “Until this remedy is developed, customers will receive an interim notice instructing them to bring their vehicle to a dealership for a preliminary inspection,” the automaker said.

“Once the remedy has been developed, customers will receive a secondary notice advising the customer of the remedy availability.”

The recall involves about 600,000 minivans in the United States and another 270,000 in Canada, the automaker said.

Toyota, which overtook General Motors in 2008 as the world’s top auto seller, has been bedeviled by a series of safety issues that have raised questions about whether it sacrificed its legendary quality to become number one.

Toyota executives were hauled over the coals in the US Congress earlier this year and the company’s previously stellar reputation for safety was left in tatters after it recalled more than eight million vehicles beginning late 2009 for brake and accelerator defects.

The automaker has been hit with at least 97 lawsuits seeking damages for injury or death linked to sudden acceleration and 138 class action lawsuits from customers suing to recoup losses in the resale value of Toyota vehicles.

The company faces a record 16.4-million-dollar fine in the United States for its failure to notify authorities quickly about problems with “sticky pedals” that could force vehicles to speed out of control and officials have warned that further fines are possible.

Toyota suspended production and global sales of the Lexus GX 460 sport utility vehicle after US magazine Consumer Reports gave the SUV a rare “Don’t Buy: Safety Risk” rating Thursday in the latest blow to the reputation of the embattled Japanese auto giant.

When pushed to its limits, the rear of the GX “slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control,” the magazine said.

Toyota said it will work on analyzing potential safety risks in the model, which has already sold 6,000 units.

For only US$2,000, the Tata Nano city car is the most affordable production car you can find on the planet. And given its relatively cheap price tag, nobody will ever mistake the Nano for one of the fastest and sturdiest cars out there.

These days, the Nano has been on-fire in the news lately, and we mean that literally. After three separate incidents were reported last year of a Nano going up in flames, we now have the fourth case.

According to an Indian news report, this Nano inexplicably burst into flames for no apparent reason. The owner of the car, insurance agent Satish Sawant and his chauffeur – don’t ask us why a Nano needs a chauffer – escaped the incident without any injuries, although they were as dumbfounded as the rest of us as to how the Nano – a car that was only recently purchased – caught fire just like that.

“I have no idea what happened. A motorcycle rider overtook me and told me that the vehicle was on fire. The engine was behind me and I did not realize that the car was on fire,” Sawant told reporters.

The good thing from this incident is that both owner and driver managed to get out of the car before it barbecue’d to the ground. The bad thing is that these Nano-on-fire incidences are steadily increasing and if Tata doesn’t figure out a way to fix this problem, they may have a Toyota-sized problem on their hands.

Transportation Department has opened an investigation into brake problems in the 2010 model year Toyota Prius after the Japanese automaker acknowledged design problems with the brakes in its prized hybrid.

Some owners of the 2010 Prius have reported their brakes do not always engage immediately when they press the brake pedal, or that the brakes have an inconsistent feel. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it would assess the scope of the problem and the safety risk to about 37,000 cars that could be affected.

The investigation comes as safety questions surround Toyota, which has already issued broad recalls for millions of its best-selling vehicles, including the Corolla and Camry, because of gas pedals that can become stuck.

U.S. officials have blessed Toyota’s solution to that problem, a small piece of steel designed to eliminate excess friction in the pedal mechanism, but have criticized Toyota for being too slow in responding to customer complaints.

Asked whether Toyota would recall the 2010 Prius, spokesman Brian Lyons said: “It’s too soon to call at this point. We will, of course, fully cooperate with NHTSA in that investigation.”

The Prius trouble comes as Toyota service shops around the country work to handle gas pedal repairs. Dealers said they had heard little about any issue with Prius brakes or whether any fix was planned for cars already on the road.

Toyota was one of the first companies to mass-market a hybrid that combines an electric motor with a gas engine, introducing the Prius in Japan in 1997 and to the world in 2001. Its high gas mileage made it popular among environmentally conscious drivers, especially when gas prices spiked two years ago.

But the complexity of the Prius, a highly computerized car, has led to problems in the past. In 2005, the company repaired 75,000 of them to fix software glitches that caused the engine to stall. It has also had trouble with headlights going out.

In the case of the gas pedal problems, Toyota has insisted the trouble is mechanical, not electronic.

For the Prius brakes, Mike Omotoso, senior manager of global powertrain for J.D. Power & Associates, said the culprit is a software glitch in the computer that controls the brakes.

The problem, he said, occurs as the Prius switches between using its electric motor and internal combustion engine to power the car. Whichever motor is powering the car also runs the brakes, he said, but the brakes give out momentarily in the transition.

“It’s almost like a circuit interruption, because when you switch, there’s a short pause like a second or less,” he said. “The system should be reprogrammed where the braking power is applied for a split second longer” on the motor that was powering the car, he said.

Separately, Ford Motor Co. plans to fix 17,600 Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion gas-electric hybrids because of a software problem that can give drivers the impression that the brakes have failed. The automaker says the problem occurs in transition between two braking systems and at no time are drivers without brakes.

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co. is recalling about 540,000 pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles and minivans to fix problems with brake pedals and fuel gauges.

Most of the recalled vehicles are in the US, with smaller numbers scattered across the globe.

The brake pedal recall affects 179,000 vehicles in the US and about 26,000 in the Middle East, Canada, Russia and several other countries.

A pin in the pedal assemblies on certain 2008 to 2010 Nissan Titan pickups, Infiniti QX56 and Nissan Armada Sports Utility Vehicles, and some 2008 and 2009 Nissan Quest minivans can come loose and cause reduced braking force, Nissan said Tuesday in a statement.

No injuries or crashes have been reported, the company said. Customers with loose brake pedals should contact their dealer.

Nissan blamed the problem on a manufacturing defect by a parts supplier. Dealers will inspect the vehicles for loose pins and repair them if necessary.

The company said in a statement that all vehicles now on sale do not have the problem.

Nissan also is recalling 419,000 vehicles in the US and 53,000 elsewhere because gas gauges can show fuel left in the tank when it’s actually empty.

The recall affects 2005 through 2008 Nissan Titan, Armada and Infiniti QX56s as well as Nissan Frontier pickups and Pathfinder and Xterra SUVs produced between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008.

Due to a problem with a sensor inside the fuel tank, the gauges can show gas tanks a quarter full when they are in fact empty.

Nissan suggests keeping a half-tank of gas in the vehicles until the gauges can be repaired, eliminating the risk of running low on fuel.

Owners of vehicles in both recalls will be notified when to bring their cars and trucks in for repairs. In materials distributed to dealers, Nissan said the brake pedal recall begins on March 22, while the fuel-gauge recall will take place in two groups, one beginning March 22 and the other starting in April.

About 130,000 vehicles are covered by both recalls.

The Internal Revenue Service announced recently that taxpayers who buy a new passenger vehicle during 2009 may be entitled to deduct state and local sales and excise taxes paid on the purchase on their 2009 tax returns.

If you have brought a new car, truck or SUV, this deduction could enable you to buy now and get cash back later on your 2009 tax return, an attractive incentive.

This is particularly good news for autoshoppers shoppers. The deduction applies to any new vehicle purchased after 2/16/09 and before 1/1/10.

Naturally, there are some restrictions and exceptions. To get all the facts, contact the IRS or consult your tax advisor. The tax benefit to a purchaser will depend on individual tax circumstances and may be reduced or eliminated based on the purchaser’s modified adjusted gross income. Customers should consult their tax advisors or the IRS to confirm processes and the amount of tax deduction that they may claim.

Problem with Electronic Brakes in Hybrid Vehicles are reported by Toyota and Ford. The problem are due to a bug in the software controling the electronics brakes. Consumers worried that the cars won’t stop when needed.

The actions came as U.S. safety regulators are widening their investigation of electronic systems in vehicles, focusing on Toyota and Ford Hybrid models.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Thursday it has launched a formal investigation into brake concerns on the 2010 Toyota Prius. The agency said it has received 124 complaints from Prius owners about braking problems, including four accidents.

Toyota said Thursday there was a brake design flaw with its Prius hybrid, in a major new blow to the world’s top automaker, already facing a two-billion-dollar bill from massive safety recalls.

The brake trouble comes on top of accelerator pedal problems that have now spread to Britain and raised fresh questions about whether Toyota sacrificed quality in its drive to overtake General Motors as global number one.

Toyota has a full-blown crisis on its hands. As has been widely reported, sticking gas pedals and potentially dangerous floor mats caused Toyota to recall 5.3 million vehicles since last fall, including some of its most popular models. The floor-mat problem led the company to call back models from its high-end Lexus brand, hitherto renowned for quality and reliability. These problems has been compounded by a long-delayed and less-than-reassuring response from Toyota.

Consider the problems themselves. In August, a Lexus ES 350 was weaving wildly and at high speed through traffic on a highway near San Diego until it struck another car, veered off the road entirely, crashed through a fence, hit a dirt embankment and soared more than 100 feet before crashing. The passengers, off-duty police officer Mark Saylor, 45, his wife, his 13-year-old daughter and his brother-in-law, were killed. Just before the crash, a passenger had dialed 911 and reported that the gas pedal was stuck and the car was out of control.

Toyota attributed the problem in the Lexus to a floor mat. In November, the company said in a letter to customers that “no defect exists in vehicles in which the driver’s floor mat is compatible with the vehicle and properly secured.” The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration immediately denounced Toyota’s explanation as “inaccurate and misleading,” saying the problem was “related to accelerator and floor-pan design.”

Toyota’s credibility is also on the line. The damage to Toyota’s reputation is incalculable. The damage to its brands isn’t: That’s apparent in the weak January sales figures Toyota released Tuesday.

Toyota shares were over $90 as recently as Jan. 19. They closed Tuesday at $78.18, which strikes me as a modest decline under the circumstances. If I owned shares, I’d seize the chance to get out. Toyota has a vast infrastructure and a long history of quality and innovation. But its floor-mat and gas-pedal nightmares are likely just beginning.

DETROIT, Nov 17 (Reuters) – Ford Motor Co’s Fusion mid-size sedan was named Motor Trend magazine’s 2010 “car of the year” on Tuesday, adding to the perception that changes to the No. 2 U.S. automaker’s vehicle lineup are gaining traction.

The Fusion was chosen best of 23 new or significantly upgraded vehicles that were eligible for the award after a week of testing, Motor Trend said.

Motor Trend said the full range of Fusion models was impressive to the judges, from the four-cylinder entry level vehicles to the all-wheel drive sport and hybrid versions.

The Fusion, which has become one of the top 10 selling vehicles in the United States and was redesigned for 2010, exceeded its previous annual sales peak earlier in November. The car was launched initially by Ford in 2006.

Ford posted a nearly $1 billion third-quarter profit that surprised Wall Street analysts this month and is the only large U.S. automaker not to reorganize in bankruptcy with U.S. government support in 2009.

The automaker’s shares reached a more than two-year high on Tuesday, a day after billionaire investor George Soros’ hedge fund disclosed taking a 7.3 million share stake in Ford during the third quarter.

U.S. 2009 sales of the Fusion were up 15 percent through October at 148,045 but trail Toyota Motor Corp’s (7203.T) Camry and Honda Motor Co Ltd’s (7267.T) Accord in the mid-size sedan segment, one of the key areas in the U.S. market.

Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford has looked to set itself apart from U.S. rivals General Motors Co [GM.UL] and Chrysler Group LLC, which reorganized under government-funded bankruptcies this year, and increasingly uses Toyota and Honda as benchmark competitors.

Ford’s sales of the Fusion surpassed the previous full year sales record of 149,552 vehicles earlier in November. That record was set in 2007.

Sales of the vehicle have helped keep Ford’s U.S. sales declines for 2009 slower than the drop in the industry overall. Through October, Ford’s U.S. sales are down 20.4 percent for the year, while the industry is down 26 percent.

Ford shares were up 22 cents, or 2.5 percent, at $8.93 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange. Earlier on Tuesday, the stock reached $9, a more than two year high that is also a nearly 29 percent rise since Ford posted its third quarter earnings in early November.
